Anchorage is the northernmost city in the U.S. The weather is remarkably moderate, however, mostly because it sits on a strip of coastal lowland. The summer temperatures range from 55 to 78 °F, and winter averages are about 5 to 30 °F. Jobs are mostly in transportation, military, municipal, state and federal government, tourism, and resource extraction. Large portions of the local economy depend on the city' geographical location and surrounding natural resources.
